Namiki Yukari Royale Kashimushi (Lotus & Dragonfly) Limited Edition Maki-e Fountain Pen - #26 of 150!

The dragonfly, known in Japan as "Kachimushi" ("victory bugs") are said to fly
straight on without retreat, and thus are considered a symbol of courage and daring. Since ancient times, the dragonfly has been a popular Japanese emblem of victory, a
nd it was a frequent design motif on the helmets, swords and armor of Samurai
warriors.

Depicted with the "Kachimushi" dragonfly on this pen is a lotus plant. The lotus is
said to have grown and blossomed from a single root that lay buried for two
thousand years. When cut in slices, the stalk of this ancient plant reveals holes
which are said to symbolize an open pathway to the future; hence, like the
dragonfly, it is an emblem of good fortune.

This exceptional instrument is decorated in raised Takamaki-e and burnished
Togidashi maki-e techniques by master artisan Masahiro. The four dragonflies
hover with weightless grace on Raden wings, and the elegant lotus flower is
depicted in vivid hues. The overall effect is one of richness and depth. The
finishing touch is a small dragonfly embellishing the section in
full Gold Dust Maki-e.
